Oklahoma PTA to hold Day at the Capitol on March 6, 2013.
Oklahoma City, OK – March 4, 2013 – Oklahoma PTA, the state’s largest and oldest child advocacy association, hosts their annual Day at the Capitol on March 6, 2013. This year they will introduce a legislative caucus and training session in conjunction with legislator visits. Caucus and training will begin at 9 a.m. in Room 419C of the State Capitol. Oklahoma PTA also plans to hold a rally at 1:30 p.m. on the Capitol’s north plaza steps.
Planned speakers include Superintendent Barresi, Senator Stanislawski, Representatives Ann Coody, Dennis Casey, Mike Shelton, Jeannie McDaniel and Kay Floyd, former OKCPS School Board Chair Angela Monson, and Darryl F. Bright with Citizens United for a Better Educational System.
Topics of discussion during caucus and training session are: funding for public education, guns in schools and school safety, Parent Empowerment Act (parent-trigger), the A-F Report Card system, citizen lobbying practices and standards, and updates from the House and Senate Education Committees.
Oklahoma PTA welcomes all parents, family, friends, and community members concerned with where Oklahoma education is currently and where it is headed in the future. Membership with Oklahoma PTA is not required. “We’re excited for this opportunity to engage with our legislators,” says Anna King, President of Oklahoma PTA. “This is a great forum for parents and educators to personally involve themselves in the legislative processes that affect their children and education in Oklahoma.”
