Oklahoma PTA and Kenzie’s Cause sponsor Oklahoma’s Gift of Giving Day Oct. 25
Oklahoma City, OK (October 14, 2103) – Can a handmade card decorated by a child change a life of a person in pain or serving in the military, far away from home? The Oklahoma PTA believes it can. Oklahoma PTA, in partnership with Kenzie’s Cause, will hold the second annual Gift of Giving Day on October 25, 2013.
Celebration events will be held on October 25 at Kendall Whittier Elementary, (2601 E 5th Place, 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m.) in Tulsa and Wiley Post Elementary (6920 W Britton Rd, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) in Putnam City. The media is invited to attend the celebration events.
In the coming weeks, 480,000 blank cards will be delivered to Oklahoma’s PTA units and will provide students with a canvas to change the world in the simplest of ways. Children throughout Oklahoma will create personalized, 4 x 6 handmade cards that will be delivered to those in need of hope and caring, like military members serving overseas, or within their community to nursing home residents, children’s hospitals and more.
“The point of this event is to teach kids that gifts don’t have to come off of store shelves, they can be as simple as a handmade card. These small gifts can have a bigger impact on others than something you buy,” states Kenzie Chabino, a high school sophomore and founder of Kenzie’s Cause, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to create one million handmade cards that are made by children of all ages.
In October 2012, Kenzie’s Cause partnered with Oklahoma PTA to have the event proclaimed “Oklahoma Gift of Giving Day” by Governor Mary Fallin. The Governor is expected to sign a proclamation this year as well[J1] .
“Oklahoma PTA is honored to partner with Kenzie’s Cause on this project for a second year. This is a momentous day for Oklahoma PTA as we highlight the impact that our members and students can have on their communities,” says Jeffery Corbett, President of Oklahoma PTA.
Oklahoma PTA, as the state’s oldest and largest child advocacy association, has partnered with Kenzie’s Cause on this event for the entire community and PTA membership is not required to be involved.
