Dear House Administrative Rules Committee Members,
Oklahoma PTA, with more than 57,000 volunteer members throughout the state, supports the Common Core State Standards. Legislation that would thwart these increased standards for education is coming before your committee today.
Oklahoma PTA opposes HB 3166, HB 3167 and HB 2849.
Before Common Core, there was no collective standard supporting the public education system. If we are truly to be a unified country, offering the same opportunity to each child, a set of common standards is a must. Quality education cannot be dependent upon a zip code.
The Common Core State Standards ensure that teachers and parents know the exact end goal and can help each student meet that goal in the classroom and at home. These standards have not been developed lightly, but are an internationally bench-marked set of educational standards that will ensure every student’s college and career readiness.
Oklahoma PTA, since it was founded in 1922, has been a constant voice advocating for the needs of Oklahoma’s children and youth. PTA is the backbone of parental involvement within the public education system of Oklahoma. Our volunteer members work tirelessly and will continue their efforts until the goal of making every child’s potential a reality is fulfilled.
